Codex Entry: Thar’voss, the Dreadroot
Vaultborn Class | Colossus of Grief-Buried Names
Titles:
The Wyrm Beneath the Grove
Thorned Echo
The Name-Eater
Region:
Echowilds (beneath the Memory Grove)
Form:
Thar’voss is a titanic, root-wrapped wyrm said to coil through the earth beneath entire forests. Its body is encased in thick barkscale thorns, each one carved with fading names in spiraling Veym’ari. Along its spine bloom twisted flowers—some still glowing with remembrance, others blackened by oblivion.
Its face never rises fully above the surface. Only its massive eye—wide and lidless—emerges from the ground when it stirs, blinking once every decade in resonance with a forgotten grief.
Known Behavior:
Awakens when ancestral names are lost en masse, especially due to severance rituals, cultural erasure, or betrayal
Movement causes glyphtrees to bloom ash and spiral roots to twist
Does not speak—but the ground hums with its breath, and forgotten names echo in the soil
Approaches only those who carry the burden of names not spoken aloud
Spiritual Function:
Guardian of the Forgotten Name Spiral, a buried ritual labyrinth beneath the Echowilds
Its scales hold the names of Seekers long lost, and can sometimes whisper them back
Appearing to a Seeker is a test of truth and grief—to reclaim a name or bury it forever
May grant the Seeker a thorn of memory, a living relic that echoes a name if it begins to fade
Vault Phrase (Veym’ari):
“Lor nyel thar—kae ril voss.”“Return the guardian’s shadow—cut song into Voss.”
