Codex Entry: Quilljaw
Ring: Glyphlands
Habitat: Scrollroot burrows, ink-drenched glades, fractured archive beds
Diet: Quillgrass roots, sacred scroll shavings, ink-fed worms
Temperament: Obsessive, territorial, sharp-precise in movement and action
Predators: Glyphhounds, corrupted scroll mites
Lore: The Quilljaw resembles a small rodent-badger hybrid, but its snout is narrow and lined with fine teeth adapted to slice text-bearing roots. Its fur is thick with parchment-like patches, and its claws secrete ritual ink used to mark territory or "edit" rival creatures' glyphs.
When two Quilljaws meet, they engage in ritual circling, scraping overlapping spiral marks into the dirt until one yields. Their dens often contain sacred fragments torn from forgotten scrolls—some bearing glyphs even Spiralborne dare not speak.
Their presence signals active memory-editing in the terrain. A Seeker who finds a Quilljaw path may be walking through a story that is still being rewritten.
