Codex Entry: Echo-Ant

  • Ring: Glyphlands

  • Habitat: Beneath rune terraces, inside carved scroll-vaults, under quillgrass fields

  • Diet: Quillgrass resin, dust glyphs, fractured ritual fibers

  • Temperament: Communal, reactive to vibration, task-focused

  • Predators: Stoneblink Lizards, Runebirds (nest scavenging)

Lore:

Echo-Ants are bioluminescent insects that dwell within the living stone of the Glyphlands, tunneling through forgotten spells and unused sigils. They are drawn to sound and movement, often rearranging their hive structures in perfect response to tones and spoken word. Some ancient Spiral philosophers claim that Echo-Ants were the first to inscribe glyphs—simply by walking them.

A full colony can recreate old songs as vibrations in the ground. When disturbed, their mandibles flash soft pulses of glyphlight as a warning. During rituals of recitation, it is considered lucky to see an Echo-Ant cross your script.

They are seen as sacred translators of the unsaid.
