Codex Entry: Branneth of the Hollow Root
Elemental NPC | Earth Guardian | Ritual Title: The Stillness That Holds the Name
Titles:
The Hollow Root
Burdenbearer of the Elden Soil
Keeper of the Names Beneath
Region:
Echowilds
Form:
Branneth is a massive, hunched figure with a body that resembles the fusion of stone, bark, and ancient bone. Moss drapes from his shoulders like a funeral cloak. His back is crowned with branches that pulse softly with glyphlight, and his eyes glow from deep hollows like twin seeds lit from within.
From his arms trail root-chains inscribed with names in Veym’ari glyphs—names of those who’ve been buried but not forgotten. When he speaks, it sounds like a landslide moving in slow motion, or the long groan of shifting wood.
Known Behavior:
Appears when ancestral wounds are invoked, grief is buried too deep, or names are at risk of being erased
Seen beside grave-mounds, standing stones, and spiral-rooted trees
Moves slowly, but with undeniable presence
May offer shelter beneath his roots to those in emotional collapse
Spiritual Function:
Guardian of ancestral rites, grief grounding, and name preservation
Tends the Memory Grove, where sacred names are grown into echo-trees
Offers Glyphseed Tokens—root-carved relics that protect a Seeker’s truest name
Teaches stillness, sorrow, and protection without retaliation
Invocation Phrase (Veym’ari):
“Lor nyel ril—velon kae branneth.”“Return the guardian’s song—flame the cut through Branneth.”
