Lore:
Ashwings are large, soft-feathered avians whose wings shed a faint trail of drifting ash as they fly. Their bodies are often covered in hues of muted gray and ember glow, and their calls are slow, mournful tones said to echo the final breath of a grieving ritual.
They appear most often after funerary rites or soul-offering ceremonies, fluttering silently through the sky to carry grief across the veil. Some Spiral cultures believe that if an Ashwing lands near you during meditation, it is a sign that someone has forgiven you—on this side or the next.
Their feathers are never plucked. If one is found, it is used to write messages never spoken aloud.
